Mayweather and McGregor – Floyd Mayweather wants the exhibition money to keep rolling in for as long as possible (and for as long as people are willing to pay good money to see him box exhibition events). This next Saturday, “Money” will meet Japanese MMA fighter and YouTuber Mikuru Asakura in another another exhibition match. And Mayweather claims he is in discussions with Conor McGregor to re-stage their highly anticipated fight from 2017.
What kind of battle will Mayweather vs. McGregor II be, though? What do you think Mayweather prefers? When asked about a possible rematch with the Irishman, Floyd avoided any attempt at bravado by declaring, “I prefer an exhibition” because, get this: “I am not into bouts where I am going to take any real harm.”
Some of us don’t understand why anybody would pay to see Mayweather fight knowing that he has a very high probability of winning and an even lower probability of being tested or even being struck. Mayweather, at least, admits the truth.
Mayweather and McGregor
Mayweather told The Mail, “I want to go out there this weekend and have fun.” Then, in 2023, Conor McGregor and I will be doing an exhibition together in Dubai in the month of November. We have no idea whether this will be a genuine battle or just for show. Both have been discussed to some extent. An exhibition is more appealing to me. I’m not interested in battles where I’ll have to suffer serious damage. I don’t mind clashing with people like Conor McGregor or men who don’t really strike hard like YouTubers or UFC guys, but I won’t put myself in a situation where I may really damage myself.
So, battles, if you want to call them that, with no tension? You can’t really hold it against Mayweather that he makes a tidy sum from each and every exhibition fight he takes part in. But again, who on Earth would pay to see the same thing happen over and over again?
When they first met “for real” five years ago, most people believed McGregor had little chance. In a hypothetical exhibition match vs Mayweather, what advantages does McGregor have? Seriously, however, what’s the point?
