Canelo Alvarez is scheduled to defend his unbeaten record against Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez on November 5 in Abu Dhabi. Eddie Hearn has stated that he is already in discussions with Canelo Alvarez regarding a rematch with Dmitry Bivol in 2023. The fight will take place only if Canelo Alvarez is successful in defending his title.
For the fans who don’t understand why Canelo (58-2-2, 39 KOs) wants a rematch with Bivol (21-0, 10 KOs), it’s because if he doesn’t face him, he’s going to have huge pressure to defend against his WBC mandatory challenger David Benavidez at 168. If he doesn’t face him, he’s going to have huge pressure to defend against him.
Benavidez, who has a perfect record of 26-0 with 23 knockouts, has a style of fighting that gives him a good chance of stopping Canelo in the second part of the battle when the Mexican fighter has run out of steam. Canelo would benefit much more from a rematch with Bivol than from a bout with Benavidez, and it would provide him with an opportunity to continue avoiding the 25-year-old fighter.

Canelo’s worst-case scenario in a rematch with Bivol is that he loses a landslide unanimous decision after 12 rounds and is made to look foolish by the WBA 175-pound champion. This is the worst-case scenario. Canelo may obtain the same score as his last bout with Bivol, which was scored 115-113 by all three judges for whatever reason. If he’s fortunate, Canelo will get the same result as that fight.
The battle seemed to be much more one-sided than that, and it would be very kind of you to argue that Canelo won two rounds since he spent the whole fight having his head boxed off by Bivol. However, it is possible that Canelo did win one round. Canelo’s blows were mostly blocked by Bivol’s arms and gloves, and he only sometimes scored a knockout with one of his shots.
Eddie Hearn responded positively to Boxing Social’s inquiry about whether or not Canelo Alvarez will re-sign with Matchroom by saying, “Yeah, sure.” “We’ve already begun discussing the next battle with Dmitry Bivol. It would be interesting to see how he does in Abu Dhabi [against Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez], but we have a wonderful friendship,” Hearn added.
When it comes to the rematch with Canelo, it is not apparent why it would make a difference whether Bivol wins or loses against Ramirez. Should we expect Canelo to seek revenge for his defeat at the hands of Bivol? Canelo appears to be seeking for a method to avoid fighting Bivol, at least that’s how it looks to me. Like I stated before, if Canelo does that, he is going to be under a tremendous amount of pressure to fight Benavidez.
Canelo will most likely face John Ryder in the United Kingdom instead of taking a chance and facing Bivol since Ryder is considered to be an easier opponent.
Canelo Alvarez and I have competed in five bouts together. Therefore, I have high hopes that we will be able to work together for the remainder of his career,” stated Hearn.
